Out-of-this-world Inspiration

With so much of my inspiration usually coming from nature, I took a look upwards to see what could come of it. It’s no surprise that the “cosmos” is trending right now with shows like “Cosmos: A Spacetime Odysseythat have recently aired on TV. With so many ideas stirring in my head, from comets to galaxies, down to molecules and atoms, I had to create something with this out-of-this-world inspiration, literally. You can buy my following galactic goods in my Etsy shop as of today.

Rings shown: Comet in the sky, Midnight Moon and Yellow Moon.

Soap Packaging ideas for party favors: The crafty Chicks Blog Hop

Welcome to another month of the Crafty Chicks Blog Hop!  If you are here, you are in the right place to start the hop! We decided that we would have a Free-for-all theme! You will be surprised at what cool and fun projects everyone has come up with!

This month, is the month of love. What better time to make babies! And it just so happens that a new client of mine wanted some baby shower soap party favors. I wanted to try out some ideas and see how I could use them and combine them to create earthy and neutral colored favors that are gender neutral.

If you have scrapbooking, card making or general paper crafts supplies, then I am sure you can find some interesting ones in your personal stash to use. I was low on a few things and had to buy them, such as the burlap and the jute twine and ribbon. But I had everything else on hand. The fun part is that you can mix and match your supplies to create a bunch of different looks! Here are some ideas of what you can use:

Scrapbooking paper (the thin kind, easy to fold)

Cardstock, ribbon, twine, cord, lace, skeleton leafs, stickers, die-cuts, stamps, ink, embossing powder, washi tape, tags, felt pens (metallic, opaque, calligraphy), raffia ribbon, crepe paper, and so much more!

Sopa ideas 1

 There is really no need for a tutorial. All you need to do is cut strips of paper, use paper as a gift wrapping, tie bows and knots, and use your die cuts and die-cutting machine to make them. The rest is up to you. But here are some ideas. Some I made, some I didn`t.

  1. Layer burlap and ribbon (or twine, or cord);
  2. Wrap up a soap with paper as if it is a gift;
  3. Use a strip of paper and decorate it with stamps and embossing powder;
  4. Layer papers and ribbons
  5. Die-cut a box and add mini soap in them
  6. Wrap up your soaps with waxed paper and use colorful washi tape to keep everything in place.
  7. Use a tag and punch a hole at the top. Run some twine or cord through it and make a bow knot. It will keep the tag in place.

sopa idea 4 sopa idea 3 soap ideas 2

 I hope you enjoyed some of these ideas! Please share your ideas for soap packaging with me below in the comment section! I am always looking for neat new ideas! Also, if you would like to learn how to make no fuss soap, I would recommend trying Melt and Pour soap making. You basically melt the soap base, add coloring and fragrance, and pour into your mold. It`s super easy, not that expensive and time saving! You also know exactly what it going into your soap and can make unique soaps that are tailored to your needs!

I might do a post on it when I get around to making my soap this weekend!

I also made a Pinterest board with ideas right here if you are a Pinterest fan!

Moving on! If you didn`t know yet, each month, we host a giveaway along with our blog hop. So leave me a comment about soap packaging ideas or any other comment actually! Then, make sure you fill in our rafflecopter giveaway. It’s our way of keeping track of who is entering the contest. How to make Color Palettes

Guess what! I’m not sleeping again! Perfect time to catch up on some questions I have received lately!

Using Picmonkey to make collages and color palettes

I discovered Picmonkey.com last year and it`s a great resource to have! It`s free (limited access), or you can upgrade to have access to all the features that site offers. Lately, on one of my Etsy teams, we have made collages of our products to promote on Pinterest. Since Collages get better views on Pinterest, it was actually a great idea!

I have received some questions about how to use Picmonkey to make collages and color Palettes. It`s actually quite simple. I will show you here how to make them for free and give you a few extra tips I picked up along the way.

Making the collage and color Palette

1. Go to www.picmonkey.com and click on ‘Create a Collage’

step 1

2. Click on ‘Open Photos’, ‘click on Import from computer’ and import the pictures you would like to add to the collage.

step 2

3. Click on ‘Layouts’ button in the left hand side bar and select the collage format you would like to use. I clicked on `Pinter-etsy` and deleted the extra picture boxes that I did not need, but you choose which ever one is best for you and the number of images you plan on using. Make sure that you leave some white space at the bottom or on the side to add the color palette.

step 3

4. Add pictures and rotate your layout if needed.

5. Once you are happy with your collage, click on ‘Edit’ and the picture will open in the ‘Editor’. Once you do this, you can`t go back and change the collage.

step 4

6. Click on the ‘Layouts’ (the Butterfly Icon in the left side bar) and choose your shape that you would like to use for the color palette.

step 6

7. I chose a square. Place the shape in the white space and resize it to fit the space. Right click on the square overlay and click on duplicate to get an exact copy.

step 7

8. Now my three squares don’t quite fit.

step 8

9. I deleted the third square, and inserted two rectangles. I guess my color palette will have 4 colors!

10. Click on your first square, and the ‘Overlays’ menu will appear. Click on the ‘Color Dropper’. This tool lets you pick up any color from the image. Do the same for your other shapes.

step 9

11. You have successfully created your color palette, now don`t forget to save it!Color Palette Wedding

1. Using the ‘Biggie Smalls’ layout is best if you have only one picture. The small squares underneath fit perfectly and are easy to duplicate in the editor.
2. Use the Pinter-etsy layout for more elaborate collages. They are great for showcasing multiple pictures and creating a color palette in the same image.
3. Visit Pantone’s latest trend report for men and women:

Men: http://www.pantone.com/pages/FCR/default.aspx?season=spring&year=2014&pid=4

4. Tag your collages, tweet and more with Pantone`s trending colors
5. When tweeting, mention: @pantone #fcrs14

If you have any tips, tricks or advice, please comment so that everyone can see your wonderful ideas!

Have fun and share your collage links with me below!

Dessy: Design your wedding

I just found this really interesting website that lets your create inspiration boards, plan your wedding and so much more using Pantone`s colors. I wanted to give it a whirl, so this is my first attempt. I wanted to see how it works, and if it could be a potentially interesting site to use for my wedding jewelry. Here is what I made (I`m not sure that this is going to work, sorry if no image appears!)

You can find the website here: http://www.dessy.com/styleboard/

There are many features available on the website, I encourage you to visit it and learn more!

Review: So after publishing this post, here is what I found out. Dessy will edit your boards. I had added 2 images, one of a bracelet I made and one of my logo, which were removed. I guess they have a policy regarding adding your own images, even if the feature is available. I would recommend this site for creating inspiration boards. However, it seems that you might be limited to only the images that they provide. On the positive side, they do have a large inventory of images available to use. On the negative side, your board might get edited, and uploaded images might be removed.
